The thing that most insurance companies are not going to tell you about the new ACA (Affordable Care Act) in reference to breast pumps is that it can be a very cumbersome process to obtain a breast pump due to lack of accepted and available breast pump providers.

You are also not guaranteed to be provided with a high efficiency double electric breast pump. You will receive a pump that the insurance company approves of, not one you choose. This may ONLY be a manual breast pump. Not all pumps are created equal and if you receive only a substandard electric pump, your milk will most likely dry up if you do not take other measures to assure proper expression.

The majority of insurance companies also charge you a co-pay for this breast pump, so it's not as free as the ACA has hyped it up to be. Then your insurance premium sometimes and most possibly will go UP in order for them to recoup their out of pocket expense of said breast pump.

So, it's not all it's cracked up to be, nor does it sound like an all around fun process to go through when you've just had your little one and are trying to get the hang of things.
